Amber Alert Suspect James Lee DiMaggo May Have Booby-Trapped Car (VIDEO)

A California fugitive suspected of abducting a teenage girl, after killing her mother and possibly her brother, may have a booby-trapped his car or hideout with explosives.

Police have spent six days looking for 40-year-old James Lee DiMaggo, as they have received a number of calls from people who believe they saw him driving by according to Reuters.

"We have reason to believe DiMaggio may have placed incendiary devices or booby traps on his vehicle or in the area where he's staying," according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department homicide detective Lieutenant Glenn Giannantonio.

DiMaggo is wanted for the killing of Christina Anderson, 44, and the disappearance of her two children, Hannah, 16, and Ethan, 8.

The two kids were last seen on Aug. 3, a day before the suspect reportedly set his own house on fire. An Amber Alert was issued later on in the day, as police believed DiMaggio was going to Texas or Canada by car.

Police found Anderson's remains inside DiMaggo's home located in the San Diego County community, which is right near the California-Mexico border.

The remains of an unidentified child was also found badly burned inside the house according to Reuters.

Authorities believe the remains could be Ethan, but it will take some time before knowing for sure.

The children's father, Brett Anderson, said he believes the child is his son, but police have told him that they're not ruling out the possibility that DiMaggio abducted both of his children.

Anderson, who now lives in Tennessee, recorded a television message earlier this week asking DiMaggio to let his daughter go, and if she gets the chance he advised her "to make a run for it" according to Reuters.

"There's nothing bad to say about my kids. They never did anything to anybody. They were always wonderful. We were pretty tight knit, even though I was a couple thousand miles away," said Anderson according to Reuters.

Amber Alerts were issued in Oregon, Washington state, Nevada, New Mexico, and British Columbia according to Giannantonio.

Police are now hoping DiMaggio is at least still in the country.
