Apple's latest patent filing this week outlined technology that would store in-vehicle settings to an iDevice, allowing users to control their own car's settings.

The iDevice would allow drivers to activate their power seats, radio, climate control, and mirrors according to PCMag.com.

The technology would even work for rented vehicles.

"Such self-configurable environments are very convenient," the patent reads. "However, they are not readily transportable. Accordingly, this present technology solves this problem."

The patent, titled "automatic configuration of self-configurable environments," was published this week by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

Once released, the app would allow two drivers to save their personal preferences according to Apple.

The vehicle would include a database with the model and make of a number of different cars, which lets users choose from a menu of options, even allowing users to enter a rental or a friend's car.

"Preferences could include seat orientation, radio preferences (especially satellite radio), climate control preferences, and minor orientation preferences," according to the patent filed this week.

Apple would have to work with automakers to implement this type of technology in all vehicles. While they may not be close with companies like Ford and GM, it's only a matter of time.

Apple has already unveiled its "iOS in the Car," which combines iOS 7 in a vehicle's infotainment system. Drivers will be able to connect their iPhone to their vehicle to use controls like Siri Eyes Free according to PCMag.com.
