General Motors announced this week that it will launch its next-generation Chevrolet Spark mini car during the first half of 2015.
The automaker also revealed it will delay the launch of its refurbished Aveo small car to 2016 according to Reuters who spoke with a South Korean labor union spokesman.
GM will continue to produce the two new models in Korea instead of in the U.S. where the company is based.
"The management said it originally planned to launch the redesigned Aveo in late 2015, but the plan was pushed back. It also said it will produce the new Spark in the first half of 2015," said Choi Jong-hak, a GM Korea spokesman, to Reuters.
Choi could not comment any further on the company's future product plans.
South Korea manufacturers and ships the Aveo and Spark to the U.S., Europe, and other locations around the world according to Reuters.
The Spark was introduced back in 2009 from GM Korea's plant in the southeastern city of Changwon, and the Aveo debuted in 2011 from Bupyeong, which is right outside of Seoul.
GM Korea sold approximately 215,177 Spark vehicles in 2012, and exports represented nearly 70 percent of Spark sales according to Reuters.
The automaker has also pushed back the launch of the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze by a year to engineering changes and to try selling more of the current model before its completely redesigned.
The next Cruze had been set for a 2014 release, but production has now been moved to December 2015 according to GM.
