A German Apple blog iFun is claiming on September 6 the iPhone 5S and iPhone Lite will be released to the public.
The blog post, citing an unnamed "very credible and serious source," claims the iPhone 5S will begin production later this month.
This rumor would go along with the one regarding the demise of the iPhone 5 from last week.
ETNews.com claims Apple is getting ready to stop production for the iPhone 5 to make the iPhone 5S and Lite instead.
The iPhone 5 makes up approximately half of Apple's iPhone sales, so Cook would be taking a huge gamble by getting rid of the device while it's still selling.
The reason Apple is getting rid of the iPhone 5 is because its touchscreen technology is "not suitable for low-volume production" according to the report by ETNews. The iPhone 5 and 5S are expected to have identical display technology though according to the report.
Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities said last week that he's predicting the next iPhone device won't come until closer to January due to manufacturing issues.
"We believe iPhone 5S will experience production difficulties among numerous components as well as assembly, as seen with iPhone 5 last year," he said in a note to investors. "The model will thus be available only in limited amounts following launch. We expect undersupply to improve in October or November."
The iPhone 5S is expected to come with a 4.3 inch screen, dual core processor and an 8 MP back camera.
The iPhone Lite meanwhile might come with a 4-inch Display, 5 MP Camera, HP 5Dual core Processor, and a1GB RAM.
Both reports would be wrong if Apple decides to go straight to the iPhone 6 however.
In early July an unnamed Apple employee said the company is planning on bypassing the 5S and will instead release the iPhone 6 as early as this fall.
So while it's clear a new device is coming between September 22 and December 20, the world will have to wait to see which device Apple decides to go with.
