One woman was killed and four others were injured during a five-car pileup on the Tappan Zee Bridge in New York City after a man driving the wrong way crashed head-on into another vehicle.

The crash occurred at 9 p.m. on July 23 according to UPI.com.

"He had his lights on and he was beeping at me and I could not believe what I was seeing," said Doreen Ciborowski, who was driving northbound when the incident occurred according to The Journal News. "He was speeding, I want to say over 60 miles per hour because he flew right by me."

Local police said Hannah Ayeh-Brachie, 56, was killed after Michael Schechel, 69, hit his Ford Explorer into a Nissan being driven by Newman Ayeh-Brachie.

Schechel was driving south in the northbound lanes of the bridge. Ayeh-Brachie's vehicle rolled "several times" before landing upside-down in the center lane of the bridge according to police.

A third car, being driven by Juan Robles, 34, was heading southbound when he hit the Nissan after trying to avoid Schechel's vehicle.

Robels' car was then rear-ended by a fourth vehicle being drive by Nancy Gallo, 44, according to The Journal News.

Hannah Ayeh-Brachie was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other injured victims were taken to Nyack Hospital, where they are currently in critical conditions.

The Rockland-bound side of the Tappan Zee was closed for over six hours overnight as police tried to clean up the wreck according to The Journal News.

No charges have been filed as of press time.
