Dead Baby Found in Trunk of Car by Ohio Auto Mechanic (VIDEO)

An Ohio police chief has confirmed that a 17-year-old girl admitted to being the mother of a baby whose remains were found in a box in the trunk of a car at an auto body shop.

Shelby police Chief Charlie Roub said the unidentified girl admitted to investigators on July 23 that she didn't know she was pregnant before giving birth at home in late January or early February according to the Associated Press.

"The car had been at the shop for two days," said Roub according to The Mansfield News Journal. "The infant's body had been inside the car for longer than two days. It had been inside the trunk for some time."

The infant's body was found dead inside a copy paper box in the trunk of the car taken to a northern Ohio repair shop.

Roub said a mechanic found the infant's body on this week after "noticing an odor coming from the trunk" according to The Mansfield News Journal.

The employee opened the trunk thinking the smell was from a dead animal but instead found the baby's remains.

The teenager's parents and the infant's father also did not know she was pregnant.

The girl, who is a local resident, has not been taken into custody as of press time according to the Associated Press.
