Man Sets Off Explosions in Beijing Airport (VIDEO)

A man in a wheelchair set off a homemade explosive in Beijing airport today, July 20, injuring himself and sending smoke soaring through an exit area of the international arrival section of Terminal 3.

There were no other injuries and operations were normal after the blast according to Reuters.

State broadcaster China Central Television said the detonation took place just a few feet outside the door where arriving international passengers take off after picking up their luggage.

Police have not indicated why the man was even in the airport nor his reasoning for setting off the explosion.

The man was later identified as Ji Zhongxing, born in 1979, and from the eastern province of Shandong according to Xinhua News.

The bomber is currently being treated for his injuries as of press time and will recover.

The explosive used was black powder, the kind used in firecrackers, according to CCTV.

Photos posted by CCTV on its microblog showed the area was emptied quickly as the smoke filled the room. One photo showed a medical staff and police officers near the bomber with his wheelchair sitting nearby.

About 90 minutes after the explosion things returned to normal and there were no signs of extra security according to Reuters.

Bombs are easy to obtain in China, home to the world's biggest mining and fireworks businesses.
