Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, a consumer-protection law firm, filed a proposed class-action lawsuit claiming that Ford Motor's MyFord Touch, MyLincoln Touch and MyMercury Touch touchscreen systems are defective.
The systems have been freezing, failing to connect to mobile phones, and failing to respond to touch and voice commands according to Reuters.
The 41-page complaint details failed attempts at correcting the system issue and other problems Ford has yet to address. The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for Central California.
Ford has dealt with over 400 issues with its MyFord system for every 1,000 vehicles as of November 2012.
"In theory, MyFord Touch is a brilliant idea and worth the premium that Ford charged its customers for the system," plaintiffs' lawyer Steve Berman of Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro said in a press statement. "In reality, the system is fundamentally flawed, failing to reliably provide functionality, amounting to an inconvenience at best, and a serious safety issue at worst."
Two websites have been set up, including syncsucks.com, to report customers' problems with the systems. Complaints have also been submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Ford launched MyFord Touch in select vehicles back in 2010. The system was created to help drivers control audio, climate, mobile-devices, entertainment and safety controls through LCD interfaces powered by Microsoft's Sync operating system.
The system can be controlled by using the touch-screen panel, voice commands, or by buttons on the steering wheel according to Ford.
Ford has declined to comment as of press time.
