Elon Musk to Reveal Plans for New High-Speed Hyperloop Transport System in August (VIDEO)

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced this week that he will unveil designs for a solar-powered inter-city passenger Hyperloop transport system on August 12.

Musk, who said he will not pursue a patent on the Hyperloop and will instead "publish Hyperloop as an open source" has not confirmed what the announcement means other than transportation as we know it could change forever.

In previous discussions, the Hyperloop would be capable of transporting people from San Francisco to Los Angeles in just 30 minutes.

Instead of having to wait for a train for transportation, they Hyperloop would mean you'll be able to get into a solo pod ready to take you wherever you need to go.

"This system I have in mind, how would you like something that can never crash, is immune to weather, it goes three or four times faster than the bullet train," Musk said to PandoDaily last year. "It goes an average speed of twice what an aircraft would do."

The system would not be affected by weather, which means the pods would travel underground or by using fully enclosed technology according to CNet.com.

The system would not work like a vacuum tube according to Musk, who described it as more of a cross between a Concorde, an air hockey table, and a rail gun.

He also claims the system would never fail or crash according to Bloomberg Businessweek.

Solar energy would be used to power the system 24 hours a day without the need of batteries.

So what do you think of the proposed Hyperloop system? Would you feel comfortable getting inside of a pod that's faster than a plane and train?
