A New York building collapse sent 12 people to the hospital after the five-story building caught fire and exploded on July 11.
At approximately 1 p.m. the fire department received an emergency call that there was a fire and an explosion that "shattered windows" on at least the first three floors.
A resident living in the building said that the explosion sounded like "a bombing or an earthquake" according to the Inquisitr. The man was able to make it out safely but he saw a firefighter carrying a woman whose leg appeared to be "very badly injured."
Another person had to be evacuated from a third-story window after the building collapse.

"I heard a big sound. It sounded like something big fell from the next floor. I felt the whole floor shaking," said Resident Jinjoo Yang, who lives next door, according to CBS News.
N.Y. Fire Chief John Bley said firefighters could already see the flames in the back of the building and "a minor collapse" inside the building according to CBS News.
At least four firefighters suffered injuries during the incident.
It took firefighters 45 minutes to put out the fire. They're not completely sure what exactly caused the fire, but they believe pesticide canisters stored in the building could have been the reason.
The building also has "existing fire code violations" that are currently being investigated.
