Road Rage Orlando: Man Killed While Calling Police After Being Followed (VIDEO)

Police are searching for a gunman after an alleged road rage shooting in Tampa, Florida that left one man dead.

Fred William Turner Jr., 47, was driving on a Florida highway when he called 911 at around 3 p.m. on June 29 to tell police he was being followed by someone with a gun according to ABC Tampa affiliate WFTS-TV.

The vehicle following Turner pulled up next to him and someone showed what appeared to be a semiautomatic weapon.

"We know that at one point in time, this person did pull up beside him and showed him a hand gun," Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee said to "Good Morning America." "During the time he was on the call with the Highway Patrol, they actually heard the shooting. There were a series of shots."

The incident took place at the intersection of North 50th Street and East Columbus Drive, or five miles west of 1-4 in Tampa according to ABC News.

After arriving at the scene of the incident, police found Turner dead inside of his car on the side of the road.

Authorities have yet to confirm what happened between the suspect and Turner to cause the shooting as of press time. They are looking for a gray Ford Taurus with tinted windows according to WFTS-TV.

"At some point, for unknown reasons, the occupant, or occupants, of one vehicle fired multiple shots at the other vehicle," Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said to ABC.
