Mazda has officially unveiled its 2013 Mazda3 which is set to go on sale this fall.
The brand-new compact will be longer and wider than the current model, a major complaint by current customers according to Mazda, to give occupants more space during trips and daily commutes.
The vehicle includes a number of new features like a new Active Driving Display which provides information like navigation instructions and speed. The infotainment system was completely rebuilt this time around as well according to a company press release.
The new infotainment system is capable of connecting with Bluetooth, software that can be updated whenever the driver feels like doing so, and hundreds of apps according to Mazda. The system is capable of reading Facebook and Twitter posts, as well as text messages to prevent the driver from looking at the screen while operating his or her vehicle.
"With more than 3.5 million vehicles sold globally, the Mazda3 is the brand's best-selling and most recognizable name plate, and its redesign for 2014 shows just how much attention to detail and care we put into this important vehicle," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO in a press statement.
Safety features customers can expect includes:
-High Beam Control
-Blind Spot Monitoring
-Lane Departure Warning System
-Forward Obstruction Warning
Base models come with standard 16-inch steel wheels, but 18 and 19-inch wheels are available on higher trim levels.
Buyers can expect a Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine capable of 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. No fuel economy estimates have been revealed by the company as of press time.
A Skyactiv-G gasoline engine with 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque will also be optional for users looking for more power according to Mazda.
"Skyactiv Technology and KODO have performed as advertised and received critical acclaim, with even more technologies and materials to be introduced with the 2014 Mazda3," said O'Sullivan. "On the heels of the launch of the 2013 CX-5 crossover SUV last fall and the 2014 Mazda6 early this year, this is an exciting time for Mazda, and we're only getting started."
