The New York State Assembly has announced two proposed bills that would stop Tesla Motors from selling cars in New York City have been put on hold for the time being.
Tesla is known for selling its vehicles through its own branded stores rather than through the traditional third-party dealerships, a fact that has ticked off most automotive companies around the world.
The bills, which were proposed last week and supported by auto dealers across the state, would mean cars can only be sold and registered when sold by a third party, and would require a private seller or dealer according to a report by Jalopnik last week.
The bills would also ban companies from selling their products directly to a consumer, which would effectively prevent Tesla from being able to operate in N.Y.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter last week to get fans of his company to voice their displeasure with the proposed bills.
Musk and Tesla don't have to worry for the time being, as the N.Y. state assembly "adjourned" its legislative session last week without ruling on the proposed bills according to Yahoo.
What this means is that the company is in the clear at least until the end of 2013 as the N.Y. State Assembly is not scheduled to meet again until January.
Musk was proud that Tesla fans were able to sway the state assembly's mind for now, but the fight is long from over.
A lot can happen from now until January, and if Tesla is not able to prove why they should be allowed to function without a third-party, they may no longer be allowed to sell cars in one of the biggest cities in the U.S.
