Lightning eMotors has delivered some outstanding news, with the carmaker just announcing that it has completed its expansion of the company's sprawling manufacturing facility in Loveland, Colorado.
With the 102,000 square foot expansion, Lightning eMotors expects its production output to increase in the coming years, from making 1,500 zero-emission vehicles and powertrains by the end of the year 2022 to having a capacity of 20,000 vehicles by 2025. This expansion is part of a $5 million investment from Lightning eMotors to increase the company's manufacturing efficiency and overall capacity.
Lightning eMotors is an auto manufacturer that specializes in electrified solutions for commercial fleets. The company's team manufactures and designs, engineers, and customizes electric vehicles to support a vast array of needs for its commercial fleet customers.
Lightning eMotors' current vehicle lineup includes a wide range of electric conversions, from electrified Class A motor coaches to Class 3 cargo vans and electric emergency vehicles, an example of which is the BEV ambulance the company created alongside REV Group.
Lightning eMotors made a name for itself in the past by specializing in electric conversions of platforms created and developed by other OEMs such as Chevrolet, Isuzu, and Ford. However, the commercial EV manufacturer delighted investors when it shared news last January that the company will offer customers as well purpose-built electric vehicles on its own proprietary platform.
Lightning eMotors' latest agreement includes a pact with General Motors. The said deal makes Lightning eMotors the first Specialty Vehicle Manufacturer (SVM) to develop 100 percent electric Class 3 through 6 commercial vehicles for GM.

With Lightning eMotors having a growing list of OEM partners and developing commercial EVs on its own platform, the company has decided to expand its production facility to meet demand. Lightning eMotors is not stopping here, with the company announcing that it plans to expand even further over the next three years. The company's facility currently sits upon a one-million square-foot campus, so there is plenty of room for Lightning eMotors to expand its workspace.
Lightning eMotors is well on its way to doing just that after successfully completing its first facility expansion. The company's Colorado manufacturing plant now has a total area of over 226,000 square feet. That is almost double the size of the facility's previous iteration.
The expansion will help Lightning eMotors finally incorporate its reconfigured workstations with its advanced automation and augmented reality systems. Lightning eMotors chief executive Tim Reese was delighted with the expansion of their headquarters in Loveland, saying it will help them increase their production capacity and enable their technicians to do their jobs more efficiently and more safely with a renewed focus on consistency and quality.
