Audi has made its A8 and S8 sedans look better than ever, with the flagship four-doors gaining several visual changes for the 2022 model year. The German automaker finally provided more details about the Audi A8 and Audi S8 US-spec models, which will face stiff competition in the luxury sedan segment with Mercedes launching the S-Class and the all-electric EQS sedan.
Audi simplified its lineup for the A8 and S8 for the 2022 model year, offering just two versions of the sedan to customers. The A8 L 55 TFSI has a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine that can generate up to 335 horsepower and 396 pound-feet of torque.
The S8, on the other hand, boasts a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which can produce up to 563 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of twist. Both outputs are the same as the 2021 model. Audi decided to no longer offer the V8 and plug-in hybrid A8s in the United States.
Just like their European-spec counterparts, both the A8 and S8 sedans receive styling tweaks with their exterior. The 2022 model cars now have a rear diffuser insert and a wider single-frame grille, while the S8 stands out with its quad exhaust tips. Audi has made available to customers an optional Black Optic Plus Package for both sedans, which will add badges, rings, 21-inch wheels, and black mirrors to the A8 and S8 models.
The A8 and S8's interior look similar to the 2021 models, with the sedans' cabins using Valetta and Valcona leather. The microfiber Dynamica material found in that leather was first used by Audi on its e-tron GT vehicle. Audi also installed ventilated massage seats upfront for the A8 and the S8.

Audi S8 customers have the option of getting a special four-seat rear comfort package for their cars. The package comes with an integrated digital remote and fold-out wing tables. Unfortunately for American buyers, the A8 Horch, which oozes so much luxury, has not been made available in the US market. However, they can take comfort in the fact that the A8 and S8 sedans are both based on the long-wheelbase A8 L.
The 2022 A8 and S8 sedans have been fitted with a 10.1-inch upper and 8.6-inch lower touchscreen for the climate and infotainment controls. However, those features are not ground-breaking, as they were also included in the 2021 models.
Audi's MIB 3 infotainment system has some outstanding features such as an Integrated Toll Module, available Traffic Light Information, and LTE mobile Wi-Fi. That pales in comparison, however, to the technology found inside the Mercedes S-Class.
The starting price for the 2022 Audi A8 is $86,500, while the 2022 Audi S8 has a price tag of $116,900 (excluding a $1,095 destination charge). The price of the A8 is the same as last year's model, while this year's S8 is $14,000 cheaper than the 2021 model.
