NBA Car Crash: Ex-Guard ‘Mookie’ Blaylock Placed on Life Support After Head on Collision (VIDEO)

Former NBA player Mookie Blaylock was on life support in an Atlanta hospital after being involved in a car crash on May 31 that killed at least one person, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Atlanta Medical Center spokeswoman Nicole Gustin said that Blaylock, 46, was listed in critical condition at the facility, but she could not release further details.

Blaylock was driving his Cadillac Escalade on May 31 in Clayton County, south of Atlanta, when he crossed over the median into oncoming traffic and hit a van carrying two people, Jonesboro police chief Franklin Allen told the Journal-Constitution.

It was not clear why Blaylock's car crossed the center median as of press time.

Allen said that 43-year-old Monica Murphy, a passenger in the van, died around10 p.m. Her husband, 41-year-old Frankie Murphy, suffered a broken ankle and was released from the hospital after undergoing treatment.

All three people were transported to Atlanta Medical Center, where Blaylock was put on life support.

Monica died just around 10 p.m. at the hospital facility, and Frankie, who sustained a broken ankle, was later let go after treatment according to ESPN.

"We are saddened to hear of the accident today involving Mookie Blaylock and the Murphy family and the ensuing passing of Monica Murphy," the Hawks said in a statement released to the Journal-Constitution. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all involved."

Blaylock played in the National Basketball Association from 1989 to 2002 according to BasketballReference.com. He was known as an excellent defender, and twice earned a place on the NBA All-Defensive First Team.

He played with the Hawks from 1992 to 1999 and also spent time with the New Jersey Nets and Golden State Warriors.
