The next generation Ford Ranger Raptor has been spotted while testing near the brand's Asia Pacific You Yangs proving grounds in Victoria, Australia. The new truck appears to have aggressive front grilles and wide fender flares.
The spotted mule was still hiding under heavy wraps. However, some aspects can be noticed, which seems to give away some hints on the new Ranger.
The spy photos hint that the upcoming Raptor has taken inspiration from its sibling, the F150. Although in camouflage, it appears that the new off-roader has a similarly aggressive, black, honeycomb grille on the front that carries the brand's badge.
The upcoming Raptor appears to have let go of the leaf-spring rear. The mule seems to sport a five-link rear coil rear suspension, which will be the same suspension configuration that will be used in the upcoming 2019 Ford Bronco SUV.
Meanwhile, another batch of spy photos has surfaced when the mule was undergoing a test in Michigan. Interestingly, the new Ranger appears to have wide fender flares. It also seems to have a higher ground clearance, different from the standard design of the series.
The new truck spotted also looks like in a right-hand drive system. It remains to be seen if the automaker will produce a U.S.-spec unit in the future.
Under the hood, the new Raptor is speculated to run with a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. The new truck will most probably deliver more than 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque, similar to the F150.
Car analysts also predict that the new truck will also be offered with the brand's latest diesel Power Stroke V6 engine. The next generation F150, which is scheduled to be launched soon, will be sporting this latest engine.
In terms of the shocks to be used for the new Ranger, it is speculated that the Fox shocks from the bigger Raptor will also be used for the new truck. The theory is supported by the noticeable weird looking fringe trying to be concealed under the rear axle. However, the spied prototype could not give away any hint on this matter.
There is no official statement yet on the launch date of the next generation of Ford Range Raptor. The new truck is expected to come out in 2019.
