Aston Martin Announces Electric RapidE With Radical Changes; Only 155 Units To Enter Production In 2019

Aston Martin has just confirmed the almost two-year-old concept of the all-electric RapidE has been scheduled to enter production by 2019. The brand's first electric car boasts of its zero-emission powertrain to replace the V12 engine, seductive style, and the other undisclosed radical changes.

The RapidE is the very first all-electric model from Aston Martin. The concept was first unveiled in 2015. It will come out as a special limited edition as the automaker confirmed only 155 units will be produced.

The electric car will spearhead the development of Aston Martin's low- and zero-emission vehicle strategy that was created by the automaker's president and CEO, Dr. Andy Palmer. The company has partnered with Williams Advanced Engineering, which is based in Grove, Oxfordshire, to proceed with the engineering integration aspect.

According to the press release, the upcoming RapidE will allow drivers to have a distinct driving experience that was never before offered in any Aston Martin models. Dr. Palmer described their first electric car as a representation of a sustainable future where the brand's "values of seductive style and supreme performance don't merely co-exist alongside a new zero-emission powertrain, but are enhanced by it."

The announcement also teases that the RapidE will come out like a four-door sports car identity plus the Rapide S dynamics. The six-liter V12 engine of the current Rapide S will be replaced by the latest all-electric powertrain. However, the company opted to keep the suspense coming regarding the capacity of this new powertrain.

The vision for the new electric car is that it embraces radical change. The RapidE is aimed to come out as a new breed of vehicle "that stays true to out ethos and delights our customers," Dr. Palmer added.

Meanwhile, Aston Martin also posted teaser images of the upcoming RapidE. It can be noticed that the design of the new electric car took its inspiration from the previous Rapide, using the VH aluminium architecture that was unveiled alongside the 2004 DB9. Check out below video for the official teaser photos of the new 2019 Aston Martin RapidE.
