2018 McLaren 570S Spider Offers Extra Thrill With Its New Retractable Hard Top

The 2018 McLaren 570S Spider is gearing up to have its global launch by the end of the month. The new supercar offers an extra thrill in performance with its new retractable hard top.

The new Spider is set to debut on June 29 at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. According to McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt, "The McLaren 570S Spider is the most attainable McLaren Spider to date and adds yet another dimension to the McLaren Sports Series family."

The new 570S Spider comes with a retractable hard top. Flewitt boasts that the new Spider is "a convertible without compromise." The automaker claims the rooftop drops at a speed of up to 25 mph in 15 seconds only.

The retractable hard top system features a wind deflector that is responsible in reducing wind buffeting when the top has been dropped. The hard top actually puts in an additional 101 pounds of weight. However, the automaker claims the structural rigidity was not sacrificed with the additional weight.

Just like the McLaren 570S coupe, the new supercar runs with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 that can produce 562 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds only.

Flewitt also mentioned that the "thrilling dynamic performance" being enjoyed in the 570S coupe is still guaranteed in the new 570S Spider. The carbon-fiber MonoCell II chassis and mid-engine layout of the new supercar will provide the same performance. However, the new 570S Spider comes with an additional thrill due to the new retractable hard top.

The new 570S Spider has three driving modes, Normal, Sport or Track mode. It also sports Electrohydraulically assisted power steering, A-arm suspension with steel springs, twin-valve adaptive dampers, anti-roll bars and carbon-ceramic brakes.

The new supercar also comes with hand-stitched leather seats, Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and 10-spok alloy wheels. Buyers can also choose from the new body colors like the Curacao Blue, Sicilian Yellow, Vega Blue and the existing Sports Series color variants.

Check out the 2018 McLaren 570S Spider in its global launch at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed in England on June 29. Deliveries are speculated to begin in August or September for a price of $208,800.
