Ahead of the release of its redesigned Leaf green car, Nissan hinted it's already working on its next electric vehicle (EV). Dubbed the Vmotion 3.0, the concept car could likely be a crossover SUV.

Nissan's Executive Design Director, Mamoru Aoki, revealed some details about the company's Vmotion 3.0 during a recent Shanghai Auto Show. He said Nissan's engineers will be basing its new Intelligent Mobility strategy from this concept car, which will stir the company in its "future direction," as per Auto News.

The three key features of the Vmotion 3.0 concept car include electrification, autonomous driving (self-driving) and connectivity. Nissan's design team will also look into improving the body's form to deliver a completely new look.

Global Design Chief Alfonso Albaisa said they will base this look for future crossover designs. Albaisa also said the concept car will be more aerodynamic with flat flooring and low-resistance tires.

The concept car could likely be unveiled at a Motor Show slated later this year, as per Car Wale. Back in January, Nissan unveiled its Vmotion 2.0 family sedan concept car during the Detroit Auto Show. Learn all about Nissan's previous concept in the video below.

This is not the first time Nissan teased an EV sports car as a concept. The company's executives, however, might have been convinced to pick an SUV for Vmotion 3.0 because sports utility vehicles have a high market demand, according to Motor Authority.

Meanwhile, Nissan recently unveiled the teaser to its second-generation EV Nissan Leaf. The image doesn't reveal much except for its sharp-looking LED lights. CNet reported the design is somewhat similar to Volkswagen Golf's headlights.

Nissan lovers should expect more teasers for the Leaf EV as summer rolls out. Speculations are that the vehicle will either be unveiled at the September Frankfurt Auto Show or in Los Angeles in November. Learn more about the new Leaf below.
