Skoda has reportedly confirmed its plan to launch an all-electric sports car. The new EV will take its inspiration from the 1970's 110R.

Skoda is apparently working on five EVs that the company aims to launch by 2025. One of the five new EV models include an all-electric sports car.

Skoda's head of technical development Christian Strube shared that the company "has 120 years of history" that is "full of emotion." The boss released the statement to clarify the perception that the brand is just "all about function."

In the same interview with AutoExpress, Strube talked about the rear-wheel drive 110R Coupe, which was launched in the 1970's, and how it depicts excitement. When asked if the automaker considers developing a car similar with the 110R, Strube responded with "Yes, but electric."

Strube did not give out any other details except for the confirmation of their plan to make an electric sports car. The publication speculates that the automaker will most likely prioritize the larger EV segments prior to the release of the all-electric sports car.

The new electric sports car is expected to take on the MEB electrical architecture. This platform is essential in forming the mechanical setup of the new model. Moreover, it will also allow the automaker to have more flexibility with regard to dynamics and power of the upcoming model.

The automaker claims that the new electric sports car is expected have a range of 310 miles. It can also accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just six seconds.

Skoda is expected to release an all-electric model of the Citigo in 2019. The following year, the brand is also expected to release the production model of the Vision E-SUV concept, which was first introduced at the Shanghai Motor Show last month. After these two models, the publication believes that Skoda will introduce another SUV model and one more family vehicle before it can finally launch the all-electric sports car.
