The all new Skoda Karoq has been teased in the official website of the automaker. Teaser photos reveal the "expressive design" of the new SUV in silhouette while a new video reveals the actual look of the new model.
The name of the new compact SUV comes from the Alutiiq language of an indigenous tribe from Kodiak Island, which is located south of the Alaska coast. The people from the Alutiiq tribe provided the name "KAA'RAQ," which means "car" in their language, and "RUQ," which means "arrow" and symbolizes an element from the logo of Skoda that refers to its dynamism. Hence, Skoda Karoq was formed from the combination of the two words from the Alutiiq language.
Werner Eichhorn, a board member for Sales and Marketing, explained that the company aims to give a powerful name for its new SUV. The goal was to create an "exceptional brand recognition value" that will be easily recalled by the customers.
The new Skoda Karoq is part of the automaker's strategy for 2025. The Czech automaker pursues to advance the expansion of its models with a focus on the SUV lineup.
Skoda also posted some first close-up photos of the upcoming Karoq. The automaker claimed an "expressive design" for the new model. One photo showed the infotainment system while another image shows the close-up view of the headlights.
Moreover, another render depicts the car in silhouette, hiding the details of the car. However, design clues have been given away as the grille has been highlighted and some lights forming the "eyelashes" design can be spotted.
According to the official press release, a chrome trim surrounds the radiator grille that sports vertical double slats. This design projects the trapezoidal cross section that is commonly seen in the SUVs of Skoda.
Furthermore, Skoda boasts of the new design components for the headlights based on the Bohemian glass art traditions. A unique lighting pattern has been created via the eight light strips forming the "eyelashes" form and the crystalline cut of the full LED headlights.
In terms of size, the new SUV is larger than the outgoing Yeti. It measures 4,382mm long, 1,841mm wide with a 2,838mm wheelbase for a front-wheel-drive or 2,830mm for four-wheel drive variant.
Meanwhile, the automaker has just posted a new video showcasing the all new Skoda Karoq without covers. The new SUV looks stunning in white as the camera zooms in and out with a 360-degree angle.
The official launch schedules of the new Skoda Karoq have been announced too. The new model is set to have its first public appearance on May 18 in Stockholm, Sweden. Then it will have its official launch on Sept. 14 at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
