Washington State Police (WSP) busted some 10 exotic sports cars on the I-90 last Wednesday because its drivers were speeding at more than 100 mph. One of the cars included a neon green Lamborghini that police accosted twice across two counties.
WSP Trooper Brian Moore said its drivers were part of a nine-day event called the Gold Rush Rally 9 and were covering the leg from Seattle to Wyoming, as per KHQ. They were headed to a Spokane car show hosted by Tom Burgess of the Thai Box restaurant. The drivers, however, said they were not aware the neon green Lamborghini registered for the said event.
Moore posted some details to the traffic violations on his Twitter. "That vehicle was stopped twice in a span of about 30 minutes, both traveling at 100 mph," he told New Central Washington, in reference to the Lamborghini. "The second time the trooper felt the vehicle needed to be impounded," he added. Police also charged its owner with reckless driving.
Burgess confirmed the Lamborghini driver didn't pay up the $20,000 registration fee for the rally. "Unfortunately, many goldRush fans and followers like to show off and follow along with the rally often driving recklessly," Kristen Klinger, the rally spokesperson, also told Spokesman in an email.
Police also pulled over a $2.6 million Bugatti that sped at 112 mph. After receiving the tickets, however, Trooper J. Sevigney said the drivers went easy on their gas as there were no more speeding violations reported. Sevigney also said the drivers will be expected to pay up $310 each for the traffic ticket in the Washington state.
Meanwhile, hundreds of car enthusiasts, including those given tickets, were at the Thai Bamboo to look at the showcased exotic cars worth a combined $50 million. Some of the families even brought their kids to the event and the children posed for photos in front of their favorite vehicles. After Spokane, the speedsters will head to Las Vegas for the final leg of the Gold Rush Rally 9.
