Emergency officials and local police are still investigating a car that fell out of the sky and into a tree near a school in Vernon, B.C.
The aircraft, known as the Maverick, is a car with a plane engine on the back and has fabric wings that allow the vehicle to fly.
Two passengers received non-life threatening injuries during the incident that took place at approximately 8:45 a.m.
"The aircraft had just taken off from the Vernon Airport and appeared to be returning for an approach back to the airport when it got into trouble and crashed into the trees," said Gord Molendyk, with the RCMP according to the Vernon Morning Star.
The vehicle was trying to land at Vernon Airport when it lost control right over Ellison Elementary. The vehicle crashed into a fence near the school, and shortly after the parachute released and the aircraft wound up in nearby trees.
No one was hurt on the ground below as all the students and faculty members were inside, though the school was preparing to have their track and field day before the incident.
The aircraft is reportedly street legal and had Florida plates according to the Vernon Morning Star.
Using a 100-metre runway, the car can take off and fly under a parasail, but also needs a 100-meter runway to make a safe landing according to The Vancouver Sun.
"A lot of the kids saw it around school this morning," said Dale Olsen, a teacher at the nearby Fulton Secondary School according to The Canadian Press. They said it looked like it stalled, the parachute started crumpling up and they couldn't get it going again."
