Volkswagen recently announced that the new generation 2018 Volkswagen Polo would be hitting the production line next month. A few days ago, the automaker already released a sneak peek of the next generation Polo hatchback.
Two test mules of the new Polo were already seen on the streets of the automaker's headquarters in Wolfsburg. Volkswagen said that the six-generation Polo would use the versatile MQB platform. The new platform will make the vehicle lighter, more spacious and could cost lesser to build.
The black test mule revealed to be a lower version of the Polo, having a steel wheel with a hubcap, while the red test mule has a higher spec since it was spotted riding on alloy wheels and full-LED headlamps. The indicators were seen doubling up as DRLs.
In addition, the design of the new 2018 Volkswagen Polo looks evolutionary since it comes with signature Polo elements such as the taillamps, grille and silhouette. The taillights have the sticker of the ongoing Polo, with a possible LED signature underneath.
Major updates are anticipated to be on the interior. The cabin is expected to be more spacious compared to the current model because of its new platform. The new Polo's wheelbase is stretched by 90mm bringing in the much-need cabin space. The inside will also come with a new infotainment system, and the higher versions will come with a bigger 9.5-inch touchscreen.
Under the hood, the new Polo will get three- and four-cylinder petrol diesel engines. The 1.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline unit with 75bhp will be available together with two turbocharged versions of the similar motor with 10-115bhp. Aside from that, Volkswagen's 1.4-liter petrol and 1.6-liter diesel will also be offered in various states of tune. Transmission options could include a six-speed automatic unit and a six-speed manual.
The 2018 Volkswagen Polo is anticipated to make its world debut at the 2017 Frankfurt auto show in September. However, the new Polo is not for the U.S. Instead, America will have the slightly bigger T-Roc SUV as the latest member of the automaker's locally-available small vehicles.
