General Motors has confirmed that public tours at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky will be suspended for 18 months (1 year and a half). Although unconfirmed, reports point to the preparations of the new Corvette as one of the reasons for the tour suspension.

The Bowling Green Daily News reported that according to the Katie Frassinelli of the National Corvette Museum, public tours at the assembly plant are being suspended to allow the facility to have a chance for "extensive changes." So, if you want to grab that tour, better head out to Kentucky as final tours will be on June 16, Friday.

Now, conspiracy theories have been circling all over regarding the reason behind such a long time for an "extensive change" to the plant. Thus, reports point out that according to an internal GM document, the company is adding a new 6.2-liter DOHC V8 engine to the Corvette lineup for the 2018 model year.

However, it hasn't been confirmed which specific model the new engine will be placed in. In other words, the tour suspension of the Kentucky Corvette plant would give ample time for GM to retool the powertrain without anyone snapping photos. Complete secrecy!

And there's the theory surrounding the upcoming C7 Corvette ZR1, which has been seen running around at the 'Ring. They might want to hide and complete this upcoming beast in secret, once again.

Regardless, the sizable amount of time for the public tour suspension highly suggests that something fishy is going on, or not so fishy. Probably, the plant will finally shift toward a new layout and work on that mid-engine.
