Toyota Motors just recently confirmed this week that it is preparing for a large recall for one of its best-selling pickup truck in the United States. The automaker revealed that over 228,000 Tacoma pickup trucks that are ranging from 2016 to 2017 model are affected.

The newly confirmed recall apparently involves the pickup truck's rear differential assembly, which might have leaky gaskets that resulted in unwanted leaks. Also, the gear assembly on the rear axle, which transports power from the engine to the rear wheels, could malfunction easily if no proper lubrication is done.

"If a vehicle is continuously operated in this condition, the rear differential could become damaged, which can result in noise and reduced propulsion," Toyota said in a statement. "In some cases the rear differential could seize, resulting in a loss of control of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash."

Toyota dealers will be task to check the affected truck's rear differential for any possible leakage for free. And if leakage is positive, the rear carrier gasket will immediately be replaced, and new fasteners will be installed. If rear differential components are seen damaged, the whole carrier assembly needs to be replaced.

Toyota announced that it would start sending notices in the mail to affected Tacoma pickup owners in the middle of June, but Tacoma owners also have another option to check online to see if the said recall covers their pickups trucks. Customers can call Toyota Customer Service at 800-331-4331.

Meanwhile, it was not clear if Toyota had received any complaints of possible crashes or injuries that are connected to the defect. Toyota spokesman Victor Vanov refuses to comment.

Recall inquiries by individual VIN are also offered at the Unites States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website. The new recall is said to be the first one to involve the 2017 Tacoma models and the second time for the 2016 model. Everyone is hoping that this will be the last recall for the latest model.
