"Kingdom Hearts 2" was released almost 12 years ago and the sequel to this action-role-playing game is long overdue. And for those waiting for the first episode of "Final Fantasy VII Remake," it seems you might still wait for a while, as Square Enix has yet to provide the exact release dates of both games.

One thing is for sure though. Square Enix has confirmed that both games will not be released in 2017. That's got to hurt, especially that "Kingdom Hearts 3" trailer has appeared in 3 consecutive E3 events since the publisher confirmed its existence, and now its impending release has been further extended.

In a recent document for the publisher's financial forecasting, to which the company shared via NeoGaf, major releases from the company have been highlighted, including the ones expected for the "fiscal year 2018 and beyond." And if you have guessed it, both "Final Fantasy VII Remake" and "Kingdom Hearts 3" have been placed in "FY 2018 and beyond." You can check the document here.

Thus, avid fans and players might wait for an even bit longer time. Well, "KH3" has a number of notable issues during its long-drawn-out development and that "FFVII Remake" was still in its budding stage during its E3 announcement in 2016.

However, there were other games scheduled for a 2017 release. These include "Final Fantasy XV," "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided," "Rise of the Tomb Raider," "World of Final Fantasy," and "Dragon Quest XI."

What the document indicated also was "reinforced" by game director Tetsuya Nomura during an interview with Famitsu last January and was translated by Gematsu. "While I can't make a sweeping statement because the development process is different from what we've done so far, there are still worlds untouched," said Nomura regarding "Kingdom Hearts 3" at the time.

"Production is progressing on unannounced worlds, in a state that we cannot show them off. In terms of the state of development, there is still some way to go," added Nomura. The game director also said that a development progress could be shown "at an event somewhere," suggesting another E3 appearance of the long overdue game.

Although this is still not a formal announcement, it might truly indicate we won't be seeing any of these games anytime soon. But let's hope that Square Enix gets both games "Kingdom Hearts 3" and "Final Fantasy VII Remake" right this time.
