This is a battle among two contending compact cars - the 2018 Subaru WRX and the 2018 Honda Civic Type R. Their win depends on what each car has to offer in terms of power and speed.
Firstly, the 2018 Honda Civic Type R would probably have the same turbo-charged engine that its counterpart Honda Accord has. Turbocharged engines make a large noise when starting up, and that's the reason why lots of people don't like it.
At the Geneva Auto Show, specs of the 2018 Honda Civic Type R were revealed. It has a 2.0-liter turbo four with 306 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft of torque. Accompanied by a six-speed manual gearbox, this is one compact car that offers aggressive competition against the likes of the Ford Focus RS, the Volkswagen Golf R, and finally, the Subaru WRX STI.
Of all the four brands mentioned, the 2018 Honda Civic Type R is the more formidable. Aerodynamically designed, it has sculpted side skirts, giant rear wing, front splitter, and a rear diffuser with three exhaust pipes.
Styling considered the 2018 Honda Civic Type R have 20-inch alloy wheels and a sloping roof that gives it a sedan look -- competing against the only sedan in the category, the 2018 Subaru WRX.
On the other hand, the 2018 Subaru WRX didn't register too many changes. It is still at 268 horsepower generated by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine.
The 2018 Subaru WRX also offers a Performance Package which will cost you an additional US$2,050, on top of its base price of US$26,995. This will give you an 8-way power adjustable Recaro seat, red-painted calipers, Juri brake pads and a moonroof delete.
The 2018 Subaru WRX comes also with a six-speed manual and a CVT option. The biggest question we have now is if the 2018 Subaru WRX can beat the 2018 Honda Civic TypeR (its sister compact, the Subaru WRX STI was already beaten by the Ford Focus RS). See how this will end for the two compact cars.
