The F1 team of McLaren has met a few difficulties on the track. Their car suffered heavy damage, which put it out of the practice day. The reason for it was a malfunction in the Honda produced engine. Here are the facts and consequence surrounding the situation.

On the 18th of April, in Bahrain, during a testing program, the McLaren F1 team had to bring their car in the garage, after just two finished laps. The reason for this decision was a malfunction in the engine, which made the vehicle inoperable. Motor Sport reported that the reason for the halt of testing was a water leak in the car’s Energy Recovery System. This has pushed the engineers into a corner and forced them to commence an engine change on the car, making it functional for the coming days. This came as a big surprise to the McLaren team, as Fernando Alonso had managed to successfully complete a 100km run, without meeting any problems, just the day before.

Honda’s reaction was not delayed. Auto Sport reported that the Japanese automobile manufacturer faced the problem with utmost seriousness. They have asked for the power unit to be sent back to them for further testing. Honda representatives have also established a connection with the Sakura manufacture facility in Japan, to make further clarification on the issue more easily obtainable. In a recap, Alonso got to drive the car for a day and was rather pleased with it, which is the most important part of this sport.

As far as the McLaren – Honda relationship goes, Boullier has shared that there will be no strain put on their relationship. He said that in any relationship it was normal to have ups and downs and the F1 scene and business relations are not much different. McLaren’s bolide is expected to run as scheduled.
