Two patents published this week by the U.S. Trade and Patent Office outlines Apple inventions for using iOS devices like the iPhone or iPad to find, start, and even talk to parked vehicles.
Apple's "Method for Locating a Vehicle" patent details a method where a mobile device can talk to an person's car by using a Bluetooth connection. This would be useful in instances where a driver is having a hard to finding his or her car at say a mall, amusement park, or a large parking lot in general.

A map would then appear on the driver's phone, guiding the driver to the car, almost like a GPS works to help a driver locate a specific destination according to Apple.
A user can set preferences to cause the system to act automatically, or have greater control by requiring a number of passwords before a device unlocks and interacts with the car according to Apple.
Other restrictions include authorization to start the engine between a given time period. Limitations can also be placed on speed and entertainment options.
Once finding your car, the next patent outlined this week would come into play: "Accessing a vehicle using portable devices."

Apple stated that this process would involve unlocking a vehicle's door by simply using your phone. Your phone would act as a replacement for a key fob by using specific security methods designed by Apple to get inside your vehicle.
Once inside, Apple will also help drivers start their vehicle, adjust the seats, open sunroof, or activate the headlights according to Apple.
