After many years of speculations that Genesis will be adding a brand new SUV to its lineup, Hyundai's in-house luxury brand had finally revealed the Genesis GV80 Concept at the 2017 New York Auto Show last Wednesday. However, Genesis didn't reveal yet any details of the concept, such as its dimensions and whether it would fit three rows or not, but according to some intel, the new SUV is said to be a little bigger than a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a bit more expensive.

The automaker's trademark crest grille is equipped with a diamond mesh and sits in a contoured channel that portrays a spine running the length of the GV80 Concept. Its quad headlights are nothing more than four swept-back slits.

Along the sides, a 23-inch wheel forms a deep vent that is carved into the SUV's bodywork, while the pattern that is found in the five-spoke alloys matches the trussed B- and C- pillars. At the rear, a thin, fiber-optic taillight shows its width and stylized vents in the lower fascia that cools the engine.

In addition, the automaker claims that the Genesis GV80 Concept uses "the latest plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric technology to combine eco-performance and capability, all skillfully designed to fulfill the needs and explore the escapes of the urban adventurer." This simply means that the SUV is powered by electricity generated from both a rechargeable battery and hydrogen fuel cells.

What stands out about the new GV80 Concept is its luxurious interior that includes a lot of high-tech features such as an extremely wide 22-inch OLED curved infinity display. The screen stretches clear across the entire dashboard, displaying the traditional infotainment application together with the driver information.

Furthermore, the Genesis GV80 Concept is still far away from a production model. But it will be interesting to see if the automaker will get a premium platform that is borrowed from their sedans or is just a warmed-over the Hyundai Grand Santa Fe.
