OnePlus 5 leaks continue to flourish on the web. Latest reports appear to have revealed the model number for the upcoming flagship from OnePlus.
OnePlus has reportedly registered a new model at the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). This regulatory board is the equivalent function of the FCC in the U.S.
OnePlus model number A5000 has been spotted recently at the MIIT, as reported by Sohu in Chinese. Mobipicker posted the English translation of the said report.
The latest report does not give away many details about the highly anticipated OnePlus 5. However, the report seems to confirm the name of the upcoming smartphone.
Gadget enthusiasts may recall that OnePlus has utilized the following model numbers, A1000, A2000, A3000 for the previously released smartphones. Now that the latest registry from the MIIT reflects a model number A5000, it seems that the next smartphone has skipped the number 4.
As previously reported, it is highly speculated that the name for the upcoming flagship from OnePlus will skip the number 4 due to the Chinese belief. The number 4 is deemed an unlucky number for Chinese which led to the theory that the new smartphone will carry the name OnePlus 5.
Based on the model number A5000 of the latest smartphone registry of OnePlus, speculations for the OnePlus 5 name seem to have been strengthened. Is the MIIT registry now confirming the name of the upcoming flagship?
OnePlus has not confirmed the name of the successor of OnePlus 3. It remains to be seen if the name of the new smartphone will also skip the number series as the manufacturer has skipped the series in the model number allocation.
Meanwhile, speculations on the highly anticipated OnePlus 5 never run out of the rumor mill. The reports we have gathered include the allegedly leaked specs and released date as spotted from an Indian shopping assistant site.
The upcoming flagship has been posted with the name, OnePlus 5. The post also reflects a June 30 release date, 8GB of RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, Android 7.1.1 Nougat and 23-megapixel main camera.
