Bad News For US Mercedes-AMG Project One Buyers: $2.4 million, 1000-Horsepower Hypercar Is Sold Out!

Mercedes-AMG "Project One," the hypercar for the road, has already been sold out in the United States. That's the bad news. The good news is that for those who were lucky, and privileged, to be part of the company's list, then congratulations. Soon, you will be cruising along with your sweet 1000-horsepower ride.

Despite being shrouded in mystery, the Project One has been billed as the Formula 1 race car for the road. And this has attracted a number of deep-pocket buyers. Yes, you need deep pockets if you want one.

When it goes on sale, the hypercar will be directly sold from Mercedes-AMG. But buyers will have the option of choosing their dealer when it comes to delivery and servicing of their Mercedes-AMG Project One.

And the cost? Well, it's just around $2.4 million. Plus, there will be only a limited 275 units that will be sold, as mentioned by the automaker.

There were murmurs that during the 2017 Geneva Auto Show, a number of prospective buyers, those who were mostly loyal to the brand and preferred customers, the Project One was revealed to them. According to Melissa Witek, Mercedes-AMG project manager, responsible for Project One, said that the company is very selective in their buyers.

Only those who intend to use Mercedes-AMG Project One on the track and other public events were chosen for the picking. The company wants the hypercar to be used and seen, in order to gain value, not those who plan to simply store the cars in their garages.

Although we still don't know what the Mercedes-AMG Project One really looks like, then let's list down what do we really know. In its engine bay will be a turbocharged 1.6-liter V-6 engine mated to electric motors mounted to the engine and front axle. According to AMG, the positioning of the electric motors will create a "through-the-road" hybrid AWD system.

The Mercedes-AMG Project One shown to potential buyers at the 2017 Geneva auto show was already 85 percent complete in terms of its design, as stated by the company. But it wasn't a fully running car. In fact, the hypercar might end up having the company's iconic gullwing doors.

Mercedes-AMG Project One will have its official debut at the 2017 Frankfurt auto show in September. We will also find out by May how many of the hypercar is allocated for US buyers, as deliveries are expected to begin in 2019.
