Jenson Button Returns for McLaren as Fernando Alonso Sets Sight for Indy 500

McLaren has shown dismal performances in the last two races of the 2017 Formula One season. Many observers believe that changes will be made, and recently McLaren driver Fernando Alonso announced that he will miss the Monaco Grand Prix and instead channel his focus towards the Indianapolis 500. Replacing Alonso on the grid is his former teammate and semi-retired McLaren driver Jenson Button.

In a statement acquired by BBC, the 37-year-old Button said, "I'm thrilled to be making a one-off return. I couldn't think of a better place to make that return than my adopted home Grand Prix - Monaco."

Despite announcing his departure from the sport last year, Button signed a contract with McLaren which committed him to replace any of the team's driver that is not able to take part in a grand prix for this season. Part of the contract also states that McLaren has the option to sign Button to race next year, according to The Guardian.

McLarenhase faced several hurdles and problems prior to the start of the season. The team struggled with its engine and has yet to win any point this season. Many in the F1 community believe that with its two previous showings in Australia and China, McLaren is highly unlikely to win a title this year.

Nevertheless, the season is still in its early stage and proper amends can be made in order to turn things around for McLaren. Fans are also excited for Button's return and are optimistic about his performance in Monaco. After all, Button considered Monaco as his favorite race track and might just jumpstart McLaren's bid for a title this year.
