Volkswagen Debuts iPhone Equipped iBeetle At Shanghai Auto Show (VIDEO)

Volkswagen unveiled their new iBeetle and iBeetle Convertible over the weekend at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The new models are the first VW models in which the iPhone will become an "integrated component" according to a company press release.

The app, docking station, and iBeetle were shown off for the first time on April 20 and will be on hand at the auto show until April 29.

The company will offer two separate ways to use the "innovative" interface between the Beetle and an iPhone: as an app or as a standard feature of the new iBeetle or iBeetle Convertible.

The new docking station can be found on the dashboard of the Beetle according to VW. The iPhone just needs to be placed in to integrate with the car. Once snapped in, all iPhone functions can be used in the iBeetle, like making hands-free calls, listen to your music found on your iTunes, and get directions.

The Beetle app will launch specifically on the iPhone and can connect to the vehicle either wirelessly or through the docking station.

Other app functions that can be accessed include: Spotify, which lets users stream media like new songs, customized playlists and online radio stations. The Reader app reads the latest messages a person has received from social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.

VW stated in their company release that the iBeetle models will be the first cars in the world to have a "genuine integrative interface for the iPhone" that was designed specifically with Apple.

Both vehicles will be sold starting in early 2014 according to VW.
