Audi RS6 vs Nissan GT-R: A Tale of Two Races

Pitting an Audi RS6 against a Nissan GT-R might be something not a sane person will do. The result of a station wagon going head-to-head against a high-performance car is pretty much predictable, or is it?

Looking at the specs sheet, both pack the same horsepower and has all-wheel drive, according to Road and Track. On the other hand, the Audi RS6 is a family car, while the Nissan GT-R is purposely built to be a high-performance car and its reputation over the years can be summarized in one word, fast.

The team at Carfection put the 2017 RS6 against a 2017 GT-R and performance a couple of races. The results are impressive, and a little cloudy as well.

In a straight line sprint, the RS6 leaves the GT-R in the dust. Another important thing to note here is that the team used a standard RS6 model and not the new RS6 Performance model which packs 600horsepower. This means that Audi's station wagon is relatively underpowered compared to the GT-R which packs 565horsepower.

What is interesting about this story is that in January the fellows from Car Magazine did an almost similar test. This time around they used a standard RS6 with 553-horsepower and a standard pre-facelift Nissan GT-R with 532-horsepower. Surprisingly, the GT-R wins easily.

What these two tests reveal is that the Audi RS6 and the Nissan GT-R are relatively close in terms of performance. Suffice to say, these tests are also inconclusive since there are a handful of factors that might affect each of the car's optimal performance. Factors like ambient temperature, imperfect launch technique, and fuel quality might be too tedious for weekend dragsters, but they somehow affect the overall performance of a car.
