Honda Motors is recalling approximately 225,000 SUVs and minivans in the United States and Canada to replace a brake-shift interlock that can allow the transmission to shift away from Park without the driver pressing the brake in sub-freezing temperatures.

The company stated this week that in the U.S. it's recalling approximately 128,000 Honda CR-V SUVs and 59,000 Honda Odyssey minivans released in 2012 and 2013, and 17,500 Acura RDX SUVs from the 2013 according to Reuters.

Honda stated this week that an internal investigation found the transmissions can "slip out" of Park in freezing temperatures.

No accidents or injuries have been reported as of press time according to Honda according to USA Today.

"This hasn't actually happened on a vehicle that is in customers' hands," said Honda spokesman Chris Martin according to the Los Angeles Times. "We have done it on vehicles that we own and test."

In Canada, the company said the recall affects approximately 14,000 CR-Vs, 4,500 Odysseys and 2,300 RDXs.

Owners of any of the previous mentioned vehicles are encouraged to take their vehicle to a mechanic to see if they're already dealing with the problem.

Mailed notifications of the recall will be sent to owners of each vehicle by early May according to Reuters. Once letters arrive, Honda owners can take their vehicle to their nearest dealership to get an updated brake-shift interlock blocking mechanism installed free of charge.
