With the growing and changing automobile market in China, Ford Motor Company is now planning to launch and expand its brand in the said country come 2018. This comes following a pilot program made the Chinese government regarding relaxed policies on driving pick-up trucks in China's urban areas.
Reuters reported that Ford Motor Company hopes to get more Chinese customers as they launch their mid-size Ranger pickup trucks in China next year. It is said that Chinese buyers generally prefer the SUVs rather than the big pick-up trucks. But with the recent development, Ford will be introducing the Ranger in China which is smaller than that of the F-150 model.
The Ford Ranger is the second best-selling mid-size truck after the Toyota Hilux worldwide. However, in South Africa, Europe, and New Zealand, it is the top selling mid-size truck. China will be the 5th region to enjoy and experience the established brand to be used on their streets.
According to the CEO of Ford Motor Company, China and president of Ford Asia Pacific, Dave Schoch, "We see an opportunity to satisfy unmet need in China - for world-class, stylish and refined pickups - and also to be the pioneer in this emerging segment." They also believe that since Ford is already a proven brand which dates back from 1976, Chinese consumers will not have a hard time accepting them in their market.
The launching of the popular Ford Ranger brand will take place during the special event in Shanghai on Saturday and details will be given by the CEO and President Mark Fields. During the said event, announcements will be made including the price for the high-performance F-150 Raptor pickup that will be on sale during this largest auto market event. Incidentally too, the company will be delivering the first unit of Raptor F-150 to their customers on Saturday as well.
As of the moment, Ford Motor Company has no plans of manufacturing the vehicle locally and will just import the Ranger in China. Presently they are manufactured in South Africa, Argentina, and Thailand.
