Toyota HiLux Tonka Truck Concept: Top-Spec HiLux 4x4 double-cab SR5 Turned Into A “Full-Size Dream Toy for Adults”

If you are one of those kids who grew in the sandbox playing Hasbro's Tonka Trucks, then you are in luck as the grease monkeys at Toyota Australia decked up a Toyota HiLux inspired by the classic childhood toy. In fact, this is to commemorate Toyota's 80th global anniversary and Tonka's 70th as well.

The Toyota HiLux Tonka Truck concept resembles a life-sized Tonka Truck, as the name implies. Toyota describes the truck as a "full-size dream toy for adults." It was unveiled at the Australian Technology Park. Also unveiled with it is the new HiLux TRD (Toyota Racing Development) edition. Both of which are based on the top-spec HiLux 4x4 double-cab SR5.

A 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel has been dropped in the Toyota HiLux Tonka Truck's engine bay and it has been raised up six inches more. This means that it can deliver 177 horses and 332 lb-ft of torque.

Since it is made for off-roading, it has been outfitted with heavy-duty suspension and paired with 35-inch tires. Marks 4WD Adaptors supplied it with a hub-mounted reduction gearbox, while King Springs provided heavy-duty springs and adjustable remote reservoir shocks.

To exude the Tonka vibe, they gave it a snazzy paint job, "Sun Fusion Yellow?" Plus, the Toyota HiLux Tonka Truck comes with a snorkel and a light bar. It probably can truly go off-roading just about anywhere, hopefully.

There is still no news as of this writing if Toyota is planning on creating a production version of the Toyota HiLux Tonka Truck or if they plan on selling it. However, if you happen to be in Australia, you can snag the chance to feast your eyes on the Tonka Truck concept.

Toyota is touring the concept vehicle around the country. You can check out here where their next stop is.  So, what do you think of this black and bright yellow, indestructible (seemingly) dump truck? Share with us your thoughts on this.
