Edison2 Unveils Very Light Car Version 4.0, To Be Sold For $20,000 (PHOTOS/ VIDEO)

Edison2, the winners of the 2010 Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize, revealed their newest Very Light Car (VLC) at the Henry Ford Museum's Driving America exhibit this week.

After being introduced by The Henry Ford President Patricia Mooradian, Oliver Kuttner spoke to a crowd about all the different achievements Edison2 has accomplished over the past five years and their mission to "provide affordable, efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions."

During Kuttner's speech a banner showcasing the new Edison VLC 4.0 model was revealed and minutes later Kuttner and Mooradian brought out the new model to be seen by all who attended the gathering.

"This is disruptive technology," Kuttner said according to a company press release. "This can change the entire industry. This can change the economies of nations, and my task today is to explain this to you."

After the vehicle was unveiled, Kuttner spoke about the new model in detail, and stated the advantages of the newer architecture and design focus on consumer needs. The 4.0 model includes additional room, aesthetics, easier entry and exit, and an improved suspension.

Kuttner stated that the vehicle's designers were told to focus on creating a better suspension for the 4.0, and the company feels satisfied with what they came up with.

"In the end it's all about efficiency, and efficiency is all about cost," Kuttner said according to a company press release. "He went into detail about economic advantages of the VLC architecture to global automakers and their consumers. He also described how reducing vehicle energy requirement is an important objective in meeting global reductions in GHG vehicle emissions, and managing energy challenges and costs worldwide.

Expect the new model to be sold for a competitive price of $20,000 this year.

"This car opens up the possibility for a whole new type of car in a much more responsible, sustainable way to the future," said Kuttner.
