F1 Champions Drove This Benetton B191, See Pricing Here

The Benetton B191 has gone through several of the most prestigious F1 races. The famous race car has been used several times on and off the screen and was driven by some of the multiple world champions.

And since each year, every Formula One racing team builds brand-new chassis and retires the old ones. Mostly, the previous ones stay under the team and its partner. But some end up in private hands. And this is the opportunity offered here because this Benetton B191 will be auctioned by Bonhams during the Spa Classic on May 21.

This 1991 Benetton-Ford B191, powered by a Cosworth HBA5 3.5-liter V8 supplied to Benetton in partnership with Ford, was presented in three races, replacing the B190B modified from the previous season. Brazilian racer Roberto Moreno had driven the car before passing it to his teammate the father of Formula E champion Nelson Junior, Nelson Piquet who had already acquired three world titles by that time. Piquet maneuvered this very car and claimed one last checkered flag before ending his F1 career during the Canadian Grand Prix.

Later that season, fresh from his debut at the Belgian Grand Prix was Michael Schumacher, who replaced Moreno, was not able to maneuver this car in his last two races of the season, as he withdrew from the Grand Prix in Japan and Australia. But he would go on to win two world championships with the team, and five more with Ferrari.

The car was available for display in a museum after Ayrton Senna's championship title (for the third time) the following season. And just last year, the F1 racecar was put under complete reconstruction to bring it back to its original condition. After the restoration, the Benetton B191 is now up for sale by a British auction house with an estimated sale price of €750,000-950,000.
