Apple just released its IOS 10.3.1 security update which reportedly fixes a critical Broadcom Wi-Fi security weakness. This latest security update just came a week after the IOS 10.3 was also released to the public.
The Apple IOS 10.3.1 security patch fixes the Wi-Fi codes in the iPhone or iPad that may be attacked by hackers who might steal its information. This flaw can also be exploited by hackers who might run unwanted codes in the smartphone.
The security flaw was discovered by Gal Benlamini, a security research pro at Google Project Zero, according to Forbes. Benlamini reported that the Apple IOS 10.3.1 affects models iPhone 5 and newer models, plus some Samsung Galaxy models and Google's Nexus model.
Two potential attacks on the said phones affect stack buffer overflows, as well as Tunneled Direct Link Setup or TDLS. The TDLS allows a Wi-Fi-enabled device to share data within its network without having to send the info to the Wi-Fi base.
Apple's IOS 10.3.1 update fixes what was addressed by its earlier Apple IOS 10.3 update. As popularly known, Apple is ceasing support for 32-bit apps. The 10.3 was supposed to release a pop-up box that says Apple is discontinuing support for 32-bit apps.
However, the new update does not offer other features other than the security fix mentioned earlier. Well, at least it resolves the problems some reviewers noticed on the popular Apple devices.
Meanwhile, MacRumors reported that Apple sent emails to several iCloud users, warning them that the recent Apple IOS 10.3 update might have a bug that had accidentally enabled some iCloud services. iCloud services include Photos, Calendars, Mail, Notes, Safari, Contacts, etc.
Recent reports indicated that iCloud services iCloud Keychain, iCloud Photo Library and Find my iPhone were not affected by the Apple IOS 10.3 bug. The bug was corrected already by the Apple IOS 10.3.1 update.
Apple users can download the Apple IOS 10.3.1 update through iTunes or by going to the built-in software update on iPhone and iPod devices. The Apple IOS 10.3.1 is available for iPhone 5 and newer models, iPad 4th generation and up, and iPod Touch 6th generation and up.
