Over 600 passengers were evacuated from a high-speed train heading for Taiwan's capital Taipei today, April 12 according to CNN.
Authorities claim that a passenger found suitcases filed with explosives on the train, attached to a timer, and ready to detonate at any minute.
The bags were found unattended with a "strong odor" in one of the trains bathrooms according to police.
"We think they are explosives as they contain liquid that smells like gasoline and some triggering devices, but further testing is required to identify the substance," a police spokesman said according to CNN.
The train was stopped in Hsinchu City when police were alerted of at least five liters of gasoline and a timing device to set them off.
Police have started investigating the train and have even been screening passenger lists and surveillance camera footage for possible suspects.
The Taiwan Highway Speed Rail Corp. didn't receive any bomb threats before finding the devices on the train. This was the first time one of their trains had to evacuate over an "unidentified object."
"When we were being transferred, I heard other passengers saying that suitcases with the smell of gasoline were found and that they saw the police," said Hsu Hsin-ying, a lawmaker who was on the train, according to the Focus Taiwan News Channel.
