Sports car enthusiasts have long been waiting for a successor to the Porsche 918 and 911 GT1. While a latest 919 Hybrid Le Mans endurance racer was recently revealed much to the excitement of fans, they were also treated to an image render of a street-legal version of the 919 LMP1 prototype.

Image render of a street-legal Porsche 919 LMP1 looks amazing. Thanks to Peisert Design, we have an image render of what a street-legal 919 LMP1 would like. Called the 2020 Porsche 911 GT1, the vehicle's design draws inspiration from the Mission E Concept.

The design on the image render also drew elements from the original 911 GT1 launched back in the 1990s which was designed to compete in the GT1 class. However, due to rules on homologation, the German car manufacturer also had to produce a street legal version of it thus the 911 GT1 Stravsenversion. Only 25 units of the vehicle were produced. Given its rarity, it's no surprise that it sold for a whopping US$5,665,000 at a recent auction on Amelia Island.

Peisert's 2020 911 GT1 could easily be considered a successor to the Porsche 918. Unfortunately, fans will not be able to see that happen given that it is only a render. The German car manufacturer has also mentioned that an actual successor to the Porsche 918 will not come until 2025 the earliest.

In other related news, the 2017 model of 919 Hybrid Le Mans endurance racer was recently revealed. The company claims that around 70% of the vehicle got a design overhaul for this year's competition.

The design overhaul of the 2017 919 Hybrid was made in accordance to series regulations to make vehicles safer. This meant making the 919 Hybrid less aero sensitive attributing to around a 4-second loss around the lap. The company took this into account is looking to tweak its engine in the future to deliver more horsepower from what is currently just above 500 horsepower.
