The AMD Ryzen 5 was just spotted, leaving an idea of how it will fare against its competitor the Intel i5 series. A YouTube user managed to get a chip before AMD releases its new processors next week, so now fans can have an early look at its performance.

The YouTube Santiago Santiago compared three CPUs: the Intel i5-7400, the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 at regular clock speed and at overclocked to 3.8GHz, and the Pentium G4560. His computer used the HIS Radeon RX 480 video card and 8GB DDR 2133MHz RAM to perform the tests.

As expected, the Pentium G4560 chip severely lags behind the two. The entry-level CPU does not pose much competition to anything as it is only recommended to those who is absolutely low in cash.

The performances of the Intel i5 and the AMD Ryzen 5, on the other hand, are interesting to see. Using several heavy titles, such as "The Witcher 3," "Fallout 4," and "GTA 5," the two chips competed in terms of fps, which gives a clear idea on how well they work.

As can be seen in the video below, the Intel i5 performs better than the Ryzen 5 when not overclocked. But AMD's mid-range chip has its moments when overclocked, sometimes leaving behind its competitor.

Still, it is not a conclusive review. The lack of firmware update (given that it has not been released yet) and such things factor to the Ryzen 5's performance. The CPU also encountered issues such as overheating and low RAM speed, so fans will have yet to see if such problems persist at launch.

Nonetheless, the AMD Ryzen 5 is looking to be a great value for money. The $169 processor is considerably cheaper than an Intel i5-7400, which fetches for $202, so there's that to consider when buying.

In total, there are four Ryzen 5 chips that are coming next week. The most expensive one, the Ryzen 5 1600X, costs $249 and has a higher base clock. They will be available worldwide on April 11.
