The American League Champion Detroit Tigers are set to host their home opener today, Apr. 5, and when they do two brand new Chevrolet vehicles will have the best seat in the house.
The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickup truck and the 2014 Impala full-size sedan were hoisted on Apr. 1 by crane on its centerfield platform in the Chevrolet Fountain at Comerica Park according to a company press release.
"Opening Day in Detroit is an event, so it'll be exciting," Tigers catcher Alex Avila said according to Sports Network.
Chevrolet has been the Tigers automotive sponsor since 2010 and since then at each home opener the company has showcased new models that fans can expect to be released within the near future.
The Impala will begin regular production in Oshawa, Ontario and the Detroit-Hamtramck plant later this month according to a company release.
"This is bigger than a game," said Detroit Free Press Columnist Jeff Seidel in an article about what Opening Day in Detroit really means to locals. "Opening Day is an unofficial holiday in Detroit. It's a daylong party wrapped around a baseball game.
The new Silverado, with a V6 engine, will be released later this spring for $23,590, the same suggested retail price as the current model. Chevrolet has also announced, the V8 version of the 2014 Silverado will offer the best V8 fuel economy in the segment and more miles per gallon than the Ford EcoBoost V6 according to the company press release.
The Tigers are scheduled to play the New York Yankees in a three game series to officially begin the 2013 season in Detroit. The team will also raise their AL championship banner before the game.
