Surface Phone Release Date Is Near? Foldable Device Patents Hint Imminent Launch

Amid reports of the Surface Phone's release date being delayed, several pieces of evidence that point to its approaching launch keeps cropping up. Recently, a patent has been spotted that corroborate reports about it being a foldable device.

According to Express, the new patent describes a foldable device with a display made of multiple layers. The panels curve at the edges, which would allow the surface to create the illusion of a unified image.

This solves one of the biggest problems about foldable devices: the gap. A device that can be folded in half will have an obstacle in the middle where the hinge is, which will interfere with the image's wholeness. The curves will draw the light away from the gap, eliminating this hindrance.

It is only natural that such a revolutionary device will be under the Surface brand and will not be just another Windows 10 Phone. The device that several patents and rumors describe is a 2-in-1 hybrid that works both as a smartphone and a tablet. Folding it out should trigger the tablet mode with a bigger screen, and folding it in allows users to handle it with one hand and tuck it away in a pocket.

As Microsoft's Surface brand is reserved for those with two functions in one gadget, such as the Surface Book (laptop/tablet) and the Surface Pro (tablet/laptop), it is understandable that the Surface Phone will be such a device as well. In this case, it will be a smartphone/tablet hybrid.

Fans can expect that it will be a powerhouse with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and up to 8GB of RAM, depending on the model. Trusted Reviews also state that it could come with up to 500GB of internal storage. News of the Surface Phone's release date can be expected anytime soon.
