A new BMW 8 Series car has been caught strolling at the Nurburgring race track complete with camouflage coating. The unmistakable dual grille up front gives it away and their large size is a big hint that it is an M model.
The big blue brake calipers and sport suspension also heavily suggest that the spied car is an M version, though whether it is the M6 or M8 is unknown. However, Autoguide reported that one key element is missing - the quad exhaust that is a mainstay feature of the model. There is the possibility that BMW may simply be hiding it under the camouflage, or it is not really a full-blown M version.
The black side mirrors are also a hint that could point to an M Sport or M Performance variant, Motortrend noted. The dual exhaust tips, on the other hand, contradict speculations about it being higher end than a base model.
Other than that, the BMW 8 Series car looks pretty standard. The coupe is rather large with a low visual. The design elements allow it to appear longer and lower, thanks to the narrow windows and the sloping roofline.
Unfortunately, there is no information yet on what is going on under the hood. Reports claim that it might borrow from the 7 Series and sport BMW's CLAR platform. The M8 might have bi-turbo V12, which is similar to the M760Li. Other choices from the BMW 8 Series could include a 3.0-liter turbo-six and a 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8.
The BMW 8 Series will challenge the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and the Lexus LC 500 once it is launched. As of now, there is no official report yet on when it will be out in the market. What is known, however, is that the carmaker is working on possibly more than three cars as it previously trademarked the names 825, 845, 850, 860 and M8.
