Though it might seem a little less flashy, Tesla is now looking forward to line the roofs of their customers. The idea was conceived earlier and the CEO, Elon Musk pitched it during the August of 2016. This is one of the reasons that Tesla acquired the successful solar cell company, SolarCity, reported Auto Blog.

This is the next attempt that Tesla is making to make the planet less dependent on the fast depleting fossil fuels. The roofs will now make a home more self-sufficient to meet its energy needs. However, after the acquisition of SolarCity, Elon Musk and Tesla have been quiet about the whole project and there was no official confirmation on what was happening to this particular venture.

It is already a known fact that Elon Musk underplays most of his announcements. The announcement related to the solar roofs also came that way when he responded to a tweet inquiring on when the roof shingles will be available.

Through his tweet, Elon Musk revealed that Tesla will start taking orders for the same from next month. It was revealed that orders can be placed for the solar roofs starting from April 2017.

There are a lot of questions related to the roofs as to how much will they cost and when will the roofs be delivered. Looking back, it can be recalled that Musk stated that the full set of power-generating tiles would likely cost less than a roof made of shingles. However, it is expected that an official statement will be made about the same any day soon.
